One of my most vivid memories of his music was in Rubadub when Martin was playing the track Road Hog on Lory’s “nine tracks 4 a fine” EP. (of which the title track went on to be signed to AFX and Grant Wilson Claridge’s label REPHLEX). At the time I had never seen the reaction to music like that in a record shop. Every person in the shop immediately asked for a copy, and it was just one track into the record (which cost £7.50). It was clear from then that Lory did not care about making money from his art.

Another was the first time he ever played just outside of Glasgow, in Paisley at 69. Lory started with an crazy intro that i later learnt was him fucking around with a new Pepe Braddock tune for a few minutes. Then he dropped the beat and place was rockin. My friend Jongerre were arguing over who would go to the bar because we were scared to miss a second.

He was mixing his own productions into L.A.M. into Men Without Hats, Spanish Hip Hop trax and all with his trademark Lory acid sound. 20 years on and that may still be the best party i’ve ever been to.

This mix wouldn’t have been possible without Spencer, Marty, Kaz, Barrie, Euan, Wilba, Dan Monox, Marco Passarani and Andrea.
